About SMEA

Welcome to St Mark Evangelism Academy (MEA) Service. This service began in 2017 as a twenty-week program based initially on the St. Paul School for Servants by Fr. Daoud Lamae, with a mission of helping church members identify service needs in the community and prepare them to address those needs.

St Mark's Academy helps young servants deepen their understanding of the Orthodox Christian faith and prepares them to witness Christ in their home, school, work, community, or anywhere else.

MEA offers units in evangelism, theology, biblical studies, church history, apologetics, and many other beneficial units taught from an Orthodox perspective. The educational units offered are tailored for servants, young parents, and anyone interested in witnessing for Christ to prepare them to be “ready to give a defense to everyone who asks (them) for a reason for the hope that is in (them)” (1 Peter 3:15).

We invite you to become part of our MEA community, not just to study but also to become an active servant and join one of the associated community service programs.

Content

The holy Bible is the main source of teaching within the Coptic Orthodox Church along with several other sources such as Tradition, early Fathers writing Ecumenical councils and Liturgical text. Biblical criticism among non-Christian scholars has grown dramatically during the second half of the 20th century. This elective unit provides an overview of the main key terms and concepts used by the scholars’ community to defend the unity and authenticity of the Holy Bible against the claimed Biblical criticism.
